ABUJA: NIGERIA PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Armed Forces for the current fight against insurgency in the Northeast. The President also commended the military for their selfless service at maintaining indivisibility of the nation since Independence. He gave the commendation at the launch of emblem for the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFDC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari praised the Nigerian legion for their steadfastness, perseverance and exemplary conduct as they continued to make meaningful contribution to the growth and development of the country, even in retirement. The theme for the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration appreciates the landmark achievement of the troops. The theme for the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration is Motivating the Nigerian Armed Forces for Effective Service Delivery. “It will reassure Nigerians that the Armed Forces are committed to doing all in its power towards the return of peace to troubled areas in our nation,” Buhari said.
He urged Nigerians to procure the AFDC emblems, wear them with pride and donate generously in support of the veterans, and the dependants of the fallen heroes. The proceeds from the emblem launch, the President noted, would enable the legionnaires reach out to widows and orphans of the military victims of insurgency in the North East. The President appealed to all Nigerians to generously support the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigerian Legion as a way of appreciating the sacrifices of fallen heroes and the gallant troops who are fighting insurgency.
