Economic Freedom Fighters is horrified by the constant dismissal of democratically elected African leaders by the arrogant USA which has refused to invite the Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe to the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington, DC. This is said to be the largest high-level engagement between Africa and the USA in history. Yet, the tragedy is that the USA is unable to conceal its disrespect for Africa’s democracy even though led by a Black President.
The EFF will forever remain resolute on its stance against any form of imperialism especially all forms of sub imperialism facing the country and the continent. The fact that the criteria for the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit is for members of the African Union and that the Chairperson of the AU could not simply clarify that President Mugabe is the First Deputy Chair of the African Union executive council, yet he is excluded from the summit.
On the other hand Morocco has been invited despite not being a member of the African Union. In addition, Morocco continues to oppress the people of the Saharawi Republic through an illegal occupation of their lands. The USA has invited Morocco which is not a member of the AU, and excluded the Saharawi Republic which is a member of the AU, totally undermining the continental collective effort to end Morocco’s illegal occupation.
This is a demonstration that the imperialist and exploitative USA, led by President Barack Obama, has no regard for the democracy, self-determination and popular will of the people of Africa. It is also confirmation of the long standing suspicion by the people of the rest of Africa that indeed South Africa is a sub imperial power for it has not chosen to decline en masse the invitation of the imperialists through the AU but rather to choses to attend in the absence of the legitimate government of Zimbabwe, with the glaring presence of criminal the government of Morocco.
This is a summit that only represents the interest of the USA at heart in its scramble with China over the natural resources of the African continent. Whilst the summit aims at trade and investment in Africa and claims it will highlight the USA’s commitment to security and democratic development in Africa, such is already undermined by the exclusion of Zimbabwe.
The EFF calls for an end to all forms of sanctions against Zimbabwe as Zimbabwe has delivered a democratically free and fair election and is recognized by the African Union. The EFF also rejects the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit as a summit aimed at distorting Africa’s independence and further exploiting the natural resources of the continent. All African states must not attend, until the Zimbabwe and Saharawi Republic are included, Morocco excluded.
