Two women aged 39 and 23 and from Zimbabwe and Lesotho respectively, will appear in the Musina Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday) on charges of possession of drugs after they were arrested carrying drugs to the value of more than R8 Million across the border at Beit Bridge.
The women were arrested at Beit Bridge late Sunday night when they were walking across the bridge from Zimbabwe into South Africa. They were stopped and searched by members from the South African Revenue Services who searched them and found the drug like substance. The assistance of the Police were called in and it was determined that the women were carrying ephedrine, one of the main substances of heroin.
They were arrested and will appear in the court on Tuesday. It was discovered that the women were carrying more than 18kg of the substance between them to the value of more than R8 Million.
Investigations to determine where the women were coming from and where they were heading to are still being investigated.
