The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (DPCI) has once again noted with discontent new attempts by the so called sources who are being used to desperately and hysterically to destabilize the directorate in order to gain cheap political mileage.
We are not surprised by this because those opposed to the appointment of Acting Head of the DPCI Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza are working tirelessly to hinder, discourage and even reverse the transformation of the directorate.
This is the continuation of a relentless campaign by individuals whom we believe are within our ranks, and they have the illusion that they can frustrate and sabotage the Hawks’ radical transformation.
This was vividly demonstrated on Thursday (29 January 1025) when we were again subjected to malicious comments from the media which were mainly not based on facts, as well as statements aimed at perpetuating wild and baseless allegations.
Two weeks ago it was widely reported that Major General Ntlemeza is supposedly interfering in the Mdluli case, secondly that he was purging and moving of staff, now it is the ordering of the investigating officer in a perjury case involving three of South Africa’s most senior prosecutors – demanding their dockets.
These covert statements are a feeble attempt to perpetuate propaganda. While we do respect the right to freedom of expression, however, given the positions that these media practitioners hold in society and the kind of influence and authority that comes with their positions, one would have expected them to base their commentaries on proven facts and to look at both sides of the coin instead of allowing themselves to be fed with lies and misinformation, only for them to present such as facts.
We deny all reported sensationalized allegations that Major General Ntlemeza has demanded any dockets in so far as investigations regarding Senior NPA prosecutors and all other baseless allegations levelled against him.
To put on record, all alleged corruption cases are dealt with by the Anti-Corruption Task Team (ACTT) and Brigadier Kubandran is the chief Hawk that oversees all investigations.
Moodley is also on record asserting that no such requests were made, however as an acceptable standard he constantly appraise Major General Ntlemeza on all cases.
It is disturbing to note that Maj Gen Ntlemeza’s standing is questioned despite him leading the Directorate. He has the right to ask for progress on any matter and there is nothing wrong with that.
He has full oversight control on all investigations and sadly those perpetuating these empty allegations see things differently. The sooner they accept that Ntlemeza is the Acting Head of the Hawks the better.
We have said it before that this behaviour is counterproductive and we are determined to expose those involved in this misinformation. We are convinced that we have members that are being motivated by their own partisan or personal agendas.
Such rogue elements are threatening the security of this country for their own selfish interests. We are disappointed that the media is still a willing channel to question the credibility of Major General Ntlemeza.
We believe that some of these misfits are spreading these malicious and untrue statements to divert attention from their own undesirable activities. These individuals should realize that the course of justice cannot be side-tracked by such distractions. We hope that in the fullness of time, the general law-abiding citizens will come to share our weariness of unsubstantiated allegations emanating from anonymous sources.
