Today, at 14:45, SABC crew were busy filming footage at Point when they saw two men breaking into their car. The suspects took a bag containing three cellphones, a wallet, credit cards and two memory sticks. Members of the Provincial Communications Video Unit were at Point area when they received the complaint of theft out of a motor vehicle from SABC staff.
The members together with the Metro Police started to trace the suspects and they spotted the two suspects fitting the same description given to them. The men were captured and questioned. They led police to where they sold the stolen goods. All the stolen items were recovered by police. Two suspects aged 21 and 23 were arrested and charged with theft out of motor vehicle. The third suspect believed to be a foreign national is still being sought by police. They will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20 April 2015.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised the police for the speedy arrest of the suspects. “Police will continue with our mandate to apprehend all those involved in crime. We are glad that the SABC staff contacted members of the SAPS immediately enabling us to react quickly,” she said.
