The DA congratulates the South African Women’s Senior National soccer team, Banyana Banyana, for qualifying for the All Africa Games, by beating Botswana 5-0.
The 2015 All Africa Games will be held in Congo Brazzaville from 3 – 13 September this year.
Given how well our national women’s team has done, it is time that more resources be put towards developing the sport for women. By implementing and facilitating grass-roots development aimed at increasing the pool of disaantaged and female players alike, the sport will only benefit from increased competitiveness.
Banyana Banyana’s consistent success in continental football competitions is yet another reason why they are deserving of improved match fees from the current R5000 per match paid by the South African Football Association (SAFA).
We wish Banyana Banyana well for their upcoming 2016 Olympic qualifiers next month and call on government and sports federations to support this team going forward.
