The DA calls for an immediate end to the escalating violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict and urges all parties to prevent a descent into war.
Innocent civilians are being maimed and killed. This is indefensible, and can only entrench bitterness and hatred that will make the conflict even more intractable.
We urge Palestinian and Israeli leaders to return to peace negotiations and refrain from collective punishment.
We gly condemn strategies that lead to the loss of life of civilians, particularly children and the elderly. We extend our sincere condolences to all the bereaved.
The ongoing peace negotiation process must not be derailed by the criminal killings of innocent youth on either side of the conflict. Violence cannot be stopped with more violence. Only sensible discussion and transcendent leadership can bring peace.
We urge the United Nations to work to bring about an immediate ceasefire and then take a lead in ensuring that barriers to negotiation are removed and that peaceful negotiations can begin as soon as possible.
Stevens Mokgalapa, Shadow Minister of International Relations and Cooperation
