The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West and the South African Municipal Workers Union resolved to embark on a Regional mass action as part of preparing for provincial action as resolved by the Provincial Shop stewards of COSATU held in Taung on the 17th April 2015.
The purpose of the mass action is to demand the explanation on why poor municipal workers, who are members of SAMWU are being treated in the manner that they are treated by both officials of the municipalities and councillors, who continue to act as the big bosses of the municipalities .
We are also taking action against the poor conditions of workers in particular the issue of occupational health and safety, the exploitation of workers by councillors using their political power.
We will be demanding an explanation on why when workers raised critical issues in all the municipalities, the local government gave no reports, and we experienced no implementation of the recommendations.
Our mass action will demand a full and detailed report on corruption of some individual councillors, including officials, who are employed on the bases of faction with no qualifications.
Our marches will include issues of communities jointly with SANCO demand for service delivery to communities that has been promised as the critical basic needs for all citizens.
The allegations has been made publicly against some municipalities in particular mayors for buying expensive cars, some are dealt with , others still pending.
We will call for the National Prosecuting Authority and the South African Police Services to explain to the public in particular in Rustenburg what happened to the case of the late Moss, who was killed for exposing corruption and also who killed Moss?
Regional marchers will be as follows
bull Bojanala district 22nd May 2015 from the taxi rank next to KFC, at 10am to Rustenburg police station and the Rustenburg municipality
bull DR KK district 22nd May 2015 from the medical centre, at 10am to Matlosana municipality
bull Ngaka Modire Molema 22nd May 2015 from the crossing to the district municipality, at 10am
The memorandum will be handed over the deputy minister of local government, the minister of police, the premier and the MEC.
We call on all members of COSATU, members of the communities under SANCO, NGO’s members of the alliance and churches to support this mass action against corruption and demand for service delivery.
