COSATU Free State hosted a very successful workshop on to empower gender activists to develop emotional intelligence to enable them to become effective leaders and to become real cadres of our revolution. Our Provincial Gender Committee which sat on October 2014 identified a need to attend to the total health of our leadership and our members. It is our understanding that total health does not only mean an absence of disease or ailment but that it includes mental health as well.
The Province has thus convened this workshop in line with such a mandate and as part of the 16 Days of Activism Program against Women and Children Abuse. The workshop assisted the participants to distinguish between emotional and cognitive intelligence such that each leader is able to identify the weaknesses and strengths of each leader. The workshop was intended to assist the leadership to be in control of their emotions leaders and to be able to develop and grow within the leadership collective within which they operate and enhance their leadership skills and make their development to become cadres of the revolution an easier process.
We have also understood that the development of intelligence begins with a healthy pregnancy and preventing lifestyle ailments like foetal alcohol syndrome. There is a lot that has to be done in educating our society for a healthy generation of tomorrow, truly information is power!
