After a successful first day of the 2014 edition of the Sasol league national championships currently underway at the Isaac Wolson Stadium in Port Elizabeth, the competition is about to get even more exciting.
A total number of 15 goals were scored on the opening day of the one week long tournament and more tantalising action is expected from the ladies in the coming days.
Three times Sasol league national champions, Palace Super Falcons from Gauteng opened the first match of day two against Durban Ladies at 10h00. The Tembisa side over powered the Durban side 4-0.
Former Sasol Banyana Banyana player Tina Selepe opened the scoring for Falcons 10 minutes into the match, while Chatelle Esau, Chuene Morifi and Martha Mokoma also registered their names on the score sheet.
Falcons were playing their first match of the tournament, while Durban Ladies already had three points in the bag after beating Coal City Wizards from Mpumalanga 4-1 on Monday, 08 December.
Falcons are seen as the gest team at the championships, their squad is boasted by current and former Banyana Banyana players Nothando Vilakazi, Mamello Makhabane, Chantelle Esau, Tina Selepe, Martha Mokoma, Simphiwe Masina and Hlengiwe Ngwane.
“We knew it was going to be a tough match, Durban Ladies are also a good side. We focused on our own game plan and made sure we get the results we want, which is a win,” said Nothando Vilakazi, Palace Super Falcons Captain.
Meanwhile, Durban Ladies also boast the skills of experienced Banyana Banyana midfielder, Amanda Dlamini and striker Silindile Ngubane and former players in Memory Makhanya and Zamandosi Cele.
Cape Town Roses battle it out with Northern Cape’s Royal Wizards in the second match at 12h30, while Bloemfontein Celtic will be looking for their first win when they meet North West based Titans FC at 15h00.
Kanatla Ladies, Coastal United and Coal City Wizards resume with action on Wednesday, 10 December.
