On Tuesday the 11th022015 just before 14:00 Parkview police arrived at a scene at 13th street Parkhurst, Johannesburg, and arrested a 30 year old male following a call for help from the local security control room about a suspect who was on the run after he was witnessed through street surveillance cameras stealing from a vehicle parked on the street.
The said suspect was subsequently apprehended and upon search, 1 car-jamming device, 1 Samsung galaxy tablet, 1 Garmin navigator, 2 car chargers and several spark-plugs were found in his position. The grateful owner of the vehicle that was broken into was also on the scene and positively identified the stolen items as hers.
As the area has recently been experiencing a spike in theft out of motor vehicles incidents, Parkview SAPS members (Captain Sandile Mkhize and Sergeant Peter Mpofu) swiftly followed-up on leads, and investigations led them to Johannesburg CBD at a pawn-shop where Fake bank-notes, illegal substances (drugs), several suspected stolen items were recovered and seized. Upon observing the police and the suspect approaching the pawn-shop, the owner of the shop fled the scene.
The suspect is in custody and will appear at Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of theft out of motor vehicle as well as possession of stolen property.
