THE Busia county government will buy fire fighter engines from South Africa, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said on Monday.
The governor said his government wants to invest in firefighting equipment to cushion against emergencies.
He said arrangements have been made with a South African firm to supply the equipment.
He said payment will be made slowly over a period of time.
Speaking to the Star on the phone, Ojaamong said a technical committee will travel to South Africa on April 27 to inspect the equipment before they are shipped to the Mombasa Port.
“We are concerned that the County Government has no firefighting equipment, thus prompting us to outsource the equipment from either Uganda or neighboring counties.
This scenario will become a thing of the past in the next few weeks when we acquire the equipment from South Africa,” Ojaamong said.
