Stakeholders in the oil-producing area of Ondo State have assured Nigerians that contary speculations All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, retired General Muhammadu Buhari would not scrap the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) if he becomes president of Nigeria this year.
APC chieftain and former NDDC representative in the state, Dr. Benson Enikuomehin, who spoke with journalists in Akure, said those peddling the rumour that Buhari would scrap NDDC if voted in as president of the country were enemies of the nation.
Another community leader from the oil-producing area of the state, Apostle Claudius Ola Omogbemi, said Buhari’s antecedents in the petroleum sector had educated him on the relevance of NDDC to the region and Nigeria. The duo said Buhari’s experience as former Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) chairman, Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources and chairman Nigeria National Petroleum Commission in 1975, 1977, and 1995 respectively would assist him to restructure and sustain the commission.
