Detectives from Cookhouse police station today attended a post mortem on the remains of a body of a young child that was found on Monday, 1st of June 2015 at about 16:00 near the Bhongweni Township in Cookhouse.
The post mortem was conducted in order to establish a possible cause of death and the identity of the victim. Unfortunately sufficient DNA could not be found due to the severe decomposition of the body and the cause of death was also undetermined.
Police belief that the body found was that of the three year old Leanne Adams, who was reported missing on the 9th of May 2015. The missing victim was in foster care as both parents were deceased. The only link that could be made to the missing child was the clothing found on the scene and its resemblance to the clothing worn by the reported missing toddler.
Due to the inconclusive DNA tests, it cannot be confirmed that the body recovered was that of Leanne Adams but all other indications point to the possibility that it was indeed her and foul play is suspected in relation to her disappearance.
The SAPS condemns this kind of criminal behavior especially as we are drawing attention to the safety of our children during National Child Protection week.
