Battle for Sasol League National Champs Intensifies [press release]

Three times Sasol league national champions, Palace Super Falcons, Kanatla Ladies, Cape Town Roses and Coal City Wizards booked their place in the semi-finals of the Sasol league national championships in Port Elizabeth.

The week-long tournament kicked-off on Monday, 08 December. The final takes place on Sunday, 14 December at 12h00 and will be broadcasted live on SABC 1.

Cape Town Roses finished top of group A, having won all their group stage matches. The Capetonians beat Bloemfontein Celtic 3-0. Nandipha Booi added to her tally with a brace, making her the leading goal scorer at the tournament with nine goals. Nocawe Skiti also added another goal to her name, sending the Free State ladies home.

“Our plan is still on track, I told the players before the tournament started that we have to take it one game at a time. The more we progress, the tougher it gets, but we are very motivated for the semi-finals because we managed to beat a good team in Bloemfontein Celtic,” said Xolile Madikane, Cape Town Roses coach.

Martha Mokoma scored a hat-trick when Palace Super Falcons thumped hosts Coastal United 7-0. Coastal United conceded an own goal, adding to Falcons’ score in the first half. After a great first stanza, Falcons played a less attacking match, only scoring one goal in the last half of the match.

Durban Ladies were knocked-out by Kanatla Ladies after an intense 2-0 loss. A sad end to their campaign as Ntsoaki Phala and Ntombizodwa Nhlapo scored for the Limpopo side.

Coal City Wizards secured a 3-1 win over Titans to proceed to the semi-finals, with Lepota Makgato scoring a hat-trick.

The first semi-final will see Cape Town Roses battle it out with Kanatla Ladies at 09h00, while Palace Super Falcons take on Coal City Wizards at 11h30 on Friday, 12 December.

The 3rd and 4th place play-off will be played on the same day at 15h30.
