ABUJA: THE National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Augustine Alegeh, has commended the Rivers State for initiating massive developmental projects. Alegeh gave the commendation when he led other members of the National Executive Council for a courtesy visit on Governor Nyesom Wike at Government House in Port Harcourt.
He also congratulated the governor for his electoral victory during the last general elections. “This is the first time we are meeting you since the election. We congratulate you on your victory and the development projects you have attained within a short period,” Alegeh said.
He noted that the association would always promote the rule of law and protection of the rights of the common man. Alegeh said the governor would be afforded the rare privilege of addressing the National Executive Committee of the association as a member and a host governor of the quarterly meeting of the NBA.
In his remarks, Wike assured the lawyers that he would continue to be a leading light through the delivery of democracy dividends. He assured Nigerian lawyers his administration would always promote development, independence of the judiciary and the promotion of the rule of law.
The governor stated that his administration had completed abandoned projects and embarked on new critical people oriented projects for the benefit of the state. He said most of the reports on insecurity were “politically motivated” as Rivers State was largely peaceful. The governor praised the NBA for promoting the rule of law.
