LAGOS: A women’s rights group has called on the police to probe Bashorun Bayo Awosanya, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogun State, over allegations that he battered his wife-to-be, Victori Awosanya.
He is alleged to have tortured her after accusing her of not joining him at the social party recently, inflicting serious injuries.
“He accused her of not joining him at the social party. The torture lasted even as she ran for her dear life. Bayo Awosanya, who has a habit of frequenting pains on the woman, followed his victim every inch of her movement with beating even as she nimble on the stair case. He was reportedly saying he would kill her while he trailed her every corner she entered for self-rescue. The victim said Bayo Awosanya did not allow for a respite throughout the gruesome torture,” said Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, President of Women Arise for Change Initiative.
“He had wielded every power in himself to inflict severe pains and injuries on her. As he had vowed during the gruesome act, his intention was for apparent murder of the woman. But for the fortunate intervention of the security man at the gate, who stepped in to rescue her, Bayo Awosanya would have succeeded with the murder attempt. He was on the verge, already.”
Okei-Odumakin said Women Arise had visited and interviewed the victim and had also reported the case with the police but the alleged culprit, Awosanya, was said to be out of town.
“We have hints that he attends political functions and the congresses of the APC. We call on gallant men of the Nigerian Police Force to visit Bayo at such rallies and arrest him to face his charges. He must not go scot-free. We are in 21st century and wife-beaters cannot make good leaders. APC should drop Bashorun Bayo Awosanya from their executives or we take them all to be same. The culprit must be arrested and justice must be served.”
