ABUJA: AN unspecified number of suspected members of Boko Haram group and soldiers have been confirmed dead during an encounter between the military and the terrorists in Muva, Adamawa State.
A statement from the Defence Headquarters said some equipment were recovered from the terrorists during the clash.
“Troops in pursuit of terrorists had an encounter with a group of them at Muva Junction. The fierce encounter resulted in substantial casualties including loss of lives and equipment on both sides,” read a statement.
An armoured Personnel Carrier used by the terrorists was destroyed in the fight, while General Purpose Machine Gun, Rocket Propelled Grenades, rifles, IEDs, and ammunitions as well as, bows, arrows, locally made pistols and guns captured from them have been taken into custody, the statement read.
It added that the military had continued their advance backed with highly coordinated air strikes against the terrorists and other communities in area under regular surveillance.
“Communities and locations such as Garkida, Vimtim, Kumare-Uba, Mararaba, Mubi and others are also under regular patrols and surveillance to secure them against any resurgence of terrorist activities,” the military stated.
