LAGOS: THE All Progressives Congress United States International Secretariat (APC USA) has demanded the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and telecommunications service providers compensate subscribers for poor services rendered over the years. APC USA International Secretariat Coordinator, Francis John, said NCC was complicit for its alleged late reporting of poor services telecommunications providers offered.
“Since 1960 independence, Nigerians have been suffering from bad decision makers, policy formulators and regulators. So is the case of telecommunication contracts,” said John. He said in the telecommunications sector, the poor services had been commonplace for years, NCC had only reported these in recent months. He mentioned the latest incidents in the industry to include MTN’s failure to disconnect millions of unregistered subscribers, resulting in a whooping N1, 04 trillion fine as well as NCC fining all the major mobile networks significantly for poor services.
John said Nigeria was losing huge sums to manipulators taking advantage of weaknesses and loopholes. “Hence, NCC should not only make case of itself, the case should include refunds and compensations to customers. In this light, customers are advised; through lawyers to file “Class Action” against any provider for unprovided and inaccurate services, as well as authority stealing and abject corruption,” said John.
He said all penalties and fines must be paid promptly, without further negotiations. “NCC and defaulters must face the music in this administration. This matter of interest to us, as we engage in constructive masses education and mobilization,” John said.
