LAGOS: KOFI Anan, the former United Nations Secretary-General, is on Tuesday scheduled to address a conference a coalition of local civil society is organizing to focus on elections.
According to organizers, Annan will deliver the keynote address at the conference to be held in Abuja, based on his work as chairman of the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security and the findings and recommendations of its report, Deepening Democracy: A Strategy for Improving the Integrity of Elections Worldwide.
Annan is scheduled to meet a range of Nigeria’s civil society organizations as well as engage the audience in a question and answer session. He will also be meeting privately with various national stakeholders engaged in the electoral process.
The event is the brainchild of the Kofi Annan Foundation. It focuses its work on peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and to the rule of law with the aim of helping to create a fairer, more secure world.
As part of this work, the Foundation promotes impartial and transparent electoral processes through its Electoral Integrity Initiative.
