MALABO: WITH the two teams that have qualified for the Last Eight confirmed from Group A, focus shifts to Group B on Monday to ascertain the two sides that join hosts Equatorial Guinea and Congo to the next stage of the competition and the pair that will follow Burkina Faso and Gabon out of the Africa cup of Nations.
Tunisia (4), Cape Verde (2), Democratic Republic of Congo (2) and Zambia (1) are all with a chance to progress but it is the Tunisians whose chances appear the brightest with a draw about enough to see them sail through.
They have a date with the DRC at the Bata Stadium in a match that kicks off at 1900 hrs (local time) with the Congolese needing nothing short of victory.
Their qualification will depend on the match between Cape Verde and Zambia, which kicks off at the same time at the Estadio de Ebebiyin.
Zambia, the 2012 champions and perennial features of Africa’s biggest football tournament, have faint but mathematical chances of chances of qualifying to the next stage.
A win against the tiny island team coupled with the result of the other group B match going their way will see them through to the next round.
Meanwhile, Congo have qualified as Group A winners. In a surprise turn of events, Equatorial Guinea joined them as runners-up. Pre-tournament Group favourites Burkina Faso and Gabon will watch the remainder of the tournament from home.
