Police and other law enforcement agencies in the province conducted a joint Crime Prevention Operation in the Manenberg area this morning under the auspices of Operation Fiela (Reclaim).The operation focused on drugs, illegal firearms and other criminal activities.
The lock-down operation yielded significant results as one person was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition (9 mm pistol with serial number and make filed off, 51x 9mm live rounds). 14 wanted suspects were arrested for several cases. One female suspect was arrested for possession of tik.
The search and seizure operation was followed by patrols on the streets on Manenberg and along local schools in the area. Major General Jeremy Vearey commended the forces involved in the operation and promised residents that similar crime prevention initiatives will be embarked upon in future.
He also thanks all community structures of Manenberg who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, and furnishing SAPS with information about crime in their areas.
