US Embassy: Brown assured Lebanese officials of commitment to partnership and support of the army as the only defender of Lebanon

NNA – In a statement issued by the American Embassy in Beirut on the meetings of Deputy Commander of the US Central Command, General Charles Brown, in Beirut and the South on Friday and Saturday, it indicated that he “reaffirmed the commitment of the United States Government to the Lebanese-American partnership and to support the Lebanese Army as the sole defender of Lebanon.”

In this context, Brown met yesterday with President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Defense Minister Yacoub al-Sarraf, as well as Army Chief, General Joseph Aoun, the statement indicated.

The US Deputy Commander also met today with UNIFIL Commander, Major General Michael Perry, at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, to discuss the vital mission of UNIFIL, which helped to ease the tension in southern Lebanon, the statement concluded.
