SOUTH AFRICAN PRIORITY CRIME UNIT CONFIRMS IT’S INVESTIGATION PRESIDENT ZUMA
The Hawks, South Africa's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, have confirmed that they will be investigating allegations laid by the main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), against President Jacob Zuma.
DA party leader Mmusi Maimane last week laid corruption charges against Zuma following the release of the State Capture report by former Public Protector (Ombudsman) on the exercise of undue influence by the Gupta business family over the president in the exercise of State powers.
Maimane is set to meet with the Hawks on the matter later this week. His spokesperson, Mabine Seabe, confirmed Tuesday that charges had been laid against President Jacob Zuma under the country's Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.
"These charges were laid last week in light of the State Capture report. We can therefore confirm on Tuesday that the Hawks are investigating this matter," said Seabe.
"At their request, DA leader Mmusi Maimane will be meeting with the Head of Commercial Crimes Unit to further this investigation. He will be meeting with them later this week."
