SOUTH AFRICAN PARLIAMENT HOSTING INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON WOMEN

CAPE TOWN, The South African Parliament is hosting an international conference here this week on “Women in the Changing World of Work.”

The 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City in March this year, had a similar theme.

A statement issued by the Parliament here Tuesday said women had played a key role in fighting for freedom in South Africa, in shaping the country’s transition to democracy and in drafting its Constitution.

Since democracy, there have been various advancements in women occupying leadership positions in the country.

The conference, being held at the National Assembly Chamber of Parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday, includes panel discussions on Women and Economic Empowerment on the African Continent; Sexual violence and its impact on the
world of work; and The Role of Parliaments in Changing the World of Work for Women.
