SOUTH AFRICAN MINISTER SLAMS RISING NUMBER OF ILLEGAL LAND OCCUPATION
PRETORIA, South African Rural and Land Reform Minister Gugule Nkwinti has strongly condemned the escalating number of incidents of illegal land occupation in many parts of the country.
Stressing that the illegal occupations are against the Land Restitution Act, he has also lashed out at those encouraging people to perform such unlawful acts.
"Those people who say grab land, what is wrong with them? The sense of urgency of land to be shared among people, work it, and those who live in South Africa it is good but the manner in which they want to do it is wrong because it's unconstitutional and its unlawful. It means setting up people to be arrested and to be put in jail," he said here Sunday.
Recently, it was reported that people were identifying and occupying vacant land in various parts of Tshwane in the northern part of Gauteng Province.
Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga has also warned of dire consequences against people who are unlawfully occupying land.
