South Africa/Mozambique: Bafana Bafana and Mambas of Mozambique Play to a Draw in Friendly
Bafana Bafana and Mambas of Mozambique played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly international at Zimpeto Stadium in Maputo on Tuesday evening, 15 November 2016.
The hosts took the lead through Clesio Bauque midway through the first half but substitute Bradley Grobler equalised for the visitors on the 56th minute.
On the balance of play, the 1-1 draw was a fair result of this friendly international match.
In the opening 10 minutes, both teams had some good openings but both defences dealt with the situation calmly.
In the 14th minute, Lars Veldwijk then wasted a clear opportunity when he headed wide with a free header after he had out-jumped the hosts defence.
After a ding dong affair, Mozambique finally opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Clesion Bauque took advantage of some indecisive defending from Bafana Bafana to make it 1-0. He tapped in a loose ball after a calamitous mix up between goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and his defence.
Mozambique continued to press forward and could have doubled the lead in the 28th minute but Stelio Marcelino headed wide when it looked easier to score than miss.
Bafana then tried to conjure up some openings but somehow, lacked the cutting edge in the box.
In the second half, Da Gama made three substitutions bringing in Bradley Grobler, Asivile Mbekile and Keagan Dolly in a bid to shore up the strike force.
Grobler then made his presence felt moments later when he slammed home a loose ball in the 56th minute to make it 1-1.
Four minutes later, Mozambique could have retaken the lead but from a swift counter attack the cross bar came to the rescue of the visitors.
Daine Klate then weaved his way past a static Mambas defence but he was fouled by the keeper outside the box and from the resultant free kick Ayanda Patosi’s effort went narrowly wide.
Clayton Daniels could have stolen it at the death but his effort from inside the box hits the cross bar with the hosts keeper stranded as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
