SOUTH AFRICA URGED TO CONTRIBUTE TO CLIMATE CHANGE DISCOURSE

The Director-General of the South African Department of Science and Technology, Dr Phil Mjwara, says climate change poses new challenges as well as opportunities for researchers to work across various disciplines.

Addressing the 3rd National Global Change Conference at the University of KwaZulu-Natal here Tuesday, Mjwara said South African researchers and scientists must contribute to international discourse on challenges affecting the planet.

The conference is unpacking challenges associated with climate change and changing weather patterns. Local researchers are also discussing ways of aligning climate change goals with South Africa’s developmental agenda.
