South Africa: Hlaudi, Pack Your Bags
The Democratic Alliance is delighted with today’s judgement of the Western Cape High Court where the appointment of SABC’s Hlaudi Motsoeneng was found to be invalid, the court furthermore found that Mr Motsoeneng may not hold any position at the SABC pending the review and setting aside of the Public Protector’s Report.
In a scathing judgement, the Court also found that the SABC and its board acted in a manner that was “inconsistent” with the Constitution by not implementing the When Governance and Ethics Fail Report of the Public Protector. Actively undermining the Constitution has become hallmark of the ANC of Jacob and its severely compromised deployee to Government and its numerous entities.
The DA further welcomes the unique court order that instructed SABC board members and Mr Motsoeneng to personally cover their legal fees. This order goes a long way in ensuring that compromised individuals who serve at the highest levels of Government do not use the money of the people to fight their personal and political battles in the country’s courts.
As at this point in time, the Public Protector’s Report stands, therefore Mr Motsoeneng should immediately vacate his office at the SABC’s Auckland Park Headquarters and a disciplinary process must be instituted and conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.
Today the people of South Africa can find solace in the fact that the Constitution, Rule of Law and accountability won.
The days of lawlessness on the part of the State and its entities is quickly becoming a thing of the past, and as the DA, we will continue to challenge and uncover corruption.
