Police: Man arrested after attempted rape and murder
The Delaware State Police arrested a 30-year-old man who is accused of stabbing a woman west of Selbyville on Monday.
Temourise Taylor, of Selbyville, was charged with attempted first degree murder and first degree attempted rape among other charges after a confrontation with a woman on the side of the road.
The incident occurred around 3:05 p.m. Dec. 19 when troopers were dispatched to the area of Baker Road and Blueberry Farm Road. Dispatch reported that a female had been stabbed by a male subject who fled in a tan Suzuki SUV with a Delaware registration.
Responding troopers and officers from Selbyville, Frankford and Dagsboro Police Departments began searching the area for the suspect, who was identified as Taylor.
Taylor was located within 20 minutes and was taken into custody during a traffic stop on DuPont Boulevard south of Daisey Street in Frankford, according to a release from Delaware State Police.
The investigation revealed Taylor and the 36-year-old victim, who is an acquaintance of Taylor, drove to his house shortly before the stabbing occurred to drop off Christmas presents. Taylor propositioned the female numerous times to engage in sex with him. She refused and asked to be taken home, according to police.
Taylor began driving in the wrong direction and then parked the vehicle in a secluded area on Blueberry Farm Road west of Selbyville. The victim exited the vehicle and walked away from the SUV. Taylor grabbed her by the shirt, and she struck him in the face and tried to flee, police said. Taylor produced a knife and stabbed her in the upper torso, according to police.
The victim escaped to a truck whose driver witnessed the incident and called 911 as Taylor drove away from the scene.
The victim was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare, where she was treated and admitted in stable condition, according to police.
Taylor was transported to Troop 4 in Georgetown where he was charged with first degree attempted murder, first degree attempted rape and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $250,000 cash bond.
