New spot for fresh seafood
Harbourside Fish Market has been an icon down on Wollongong Harbour for almost a century, but the business has now exchanged its harbourside spot for bigger premises in North Wollongong.
Tony and Jennifer Virtu, the owners of the business for the past nine years, are excited to take the business into a new era.
“The new location offers plenty of parking which was always very hard to get at the old site,” Jennifer said. “We were also finding that we were growing out of the old premises.
“Here we have plenty of space and have expanded to provide a cafe / takeaway service that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week.”

Harbourside Fish Market is now situated in the new Dan Murphy’s complex in North Wollongong opposite the North Gong Hotel.
The new store officially opened on February 22 and the reaction from customers has been very positive.
“They love that they can come down and not only buy the freshest seafood around but also have it cooked and served to them on the spot,” Jennifer said.
Owner and fisherman for 25 years, Tony, says Harbourside Fish Market’s number one priority is selling the best and freshest seafood.
“Most of our seafood is sourced locally straight from Illawarra and South Coast trawlers and fishermen as I am a strong believer of supporting our commercial fishing industry,” Tony said.
“We are third generation fishmongers who have a passion for seafood. We have fished for over 25 years, sourcing the freshest seafood there is to offer. We only sell the best of Australian and NZ seafood available to buy at reasonable prices, with the best possible service.”
Harbourside Fish Market also source seafood from around Australia including Nelson Bay in the north, Eden in the south and right along the South Coast seaboard. Some of their seafood is also sourced from Queensland, including prawns.
Harbourside Fish Market sell every type of seafood you could imagine including a wide range of fish fillets, whole fish, prawns, oysters, mussels, squid, crabs, balmain bugs, lobsters and much, much more!
“We also send out a mobile fish truck every week to the Southern Highlands and Macarthur regions which is really well received,” Jennifer said.
“The locals really appreciate that they can buy fresh seafood straight from our truck.”
