Mystery couple could help solve death of man after Redfern assault
A man and a woman who were captured on CCTV camera entering an apartment building in Redfern in Sydney’s inner south could hold vital information about the death of a man following an assault, police believe.
Detectives are appealing for information to identify the mystery couple, who are both thought to be aged in their late 30s and who were filmed at the entrance to the apartment block on Morehead Street on the night of October 4.
Police said that just before midnight on that night, a 48-year-old man was assaulted during a fight with several people at the unit block on Morehead Street, near the intersection with Redfern Street.
The man left the apartment block, but was found unconscious in another apartment the following morning.
He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he underwent surgery for head injuries. He died from his injuries more than a month later, on November 12.
Detectives from Redfern Local Area Command established Strike Force Bingi to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, and have released CCTV footage of the two people they would like to speak to about the man’s alleged assault.
Police described the woman as being of Pacific Islander or Maori appearance, about 160-165 centimetres tall, aged between 35 and 40 years, with dyed blonde, short hair and a thin build.
