AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a man was hit by a bus in a Hampshire city centre.
Passers-by and passengers worked together to lift up a bus and help rescue the man who was trapped underneath the vehicle in Winchester and is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened at the corner of Middle Brook Street and St George’s Street and the man was taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Police were called at 4.52pm and immediately taped off the street to stop passers-by getting close to the incident.
They investigated the crash for several hours before leaving the scene.
The bus involved was a single decker Stagecoach bus, which was serving the park and ride car parks.
The firm have confirmed they have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances.
