FOUR RHINOS KILLED ON FARM IN SOUTH AFRICA’S NORTH WEST PROVINCE
Four rhinos have been shot and killed by poachers at an enclosure for the animals on a farm in South Africa's North West Province.
A fifth rhino is in critical condition after being shot and de-horned.
An outraged South African Citizens Against Poaching (OSCAP), an organisation which aims to save the rhinos, says there has been a spike in the number of rhinos which have been killed this festive season.
In a statement issued over the Christmas weekend, OSCAP founder Allison Thompson said: "They The animals) were awaiting permits for export to Vietnam. It appears that they all have been shot. One has survived but apparently the prognosis of it surviving is not really that good.
"We are having an increase in poaching, and it is not normal for this time of the year. Normally we have a peak at the beginning of December then it goes down.
"But apparently the poachers are not going home for Christmas, they are staying here and are busy poaching our rhinos to extinction."
