FINANCE MINISTER GORDHAN TO LEAD TEAM SOUTH AFRICA TO 2017 WEF MEETING IN DAVOS
South African Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says responsible and responsive leadership in the country and in other countries around the world is important to ensure that inclusive societies are built.
He says this is a very import theme for the 2017 World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held in Davos in January. Gordhan, who lead Team South Africa to the annual WEF meeting, maintains that South Africa will present common messages about the country at Davos to communicate to the world that South Africa is still a desirable investment destination.
A united Team South Africa is confident that South Africa, with all its challenges, can convince investors that the country is doing all in its power to ensure that a conducive environment is created to do business seamlessly and create much needed jobs.
The theme for 2017 WEF meeting is “Responsive and Responsible Leadership”. Accompanied by representatives from government, labour and business at a media briefing on the WEF meeting here Tuesday, Gordhan said the theme is most relevant at this particular point in time for all stakeholders.
“Responsive and responsible leadership is fascinating both for us, the globe, whichever sector you come from and what is responsible leadership as they see it; it is about integrity and about understanding the environment in a holistic way so that you become part of a coordinated effort that they refer to,” he added.
Asked about the political uncertainty in the country and whether it is not affecting Team South Africa’s performance, the minister said the team is not deterred by what is currently taking place and is focused on what it has to do. He maintains that the uncertainty is not unique to South Africa.
Minister of Economic Development Ibrahim Patel said South Africa needed to look at ways of dealing with some of the external factors hampering growth and at the same time look for more opportunities to boost economic growth.
