Eastern Cape Legislature hosts Bhisho Memorial Tournament, 11 Nov

Friday, 11 November 20016, elected Public Representatives and Public Sector Employees will participate in various sporting codes as the EC Provincial Legislature hosts the Inaugural Bhisho Memorial Tournament to promote health and wellness in the workplace.

The tournament is also aimed to reposition the Bhisho Stadium from a place embodying pain and sorrow into a place associated with joy and active living.

The Inaugural Bhisho Memorial Tournament will also assist increase the Legislature's public participation platforms by engaging citizens through sport and help further improve intergovernmental relations with respect to the public service, public entities organised local government and the legislative sector.

It will feature teams from Provincial Departments, District, Metropolitan and Local municipalities as follows:

Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality

South African Police Service VIP Unit

Department of Education

Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture

Department of Public Works

Department of Social Development

Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform

Teams will take part in various sporting codes such as darts, pool table, table tennis, netball, soccer and volleyball. Choral Music will also be part of the day's activities. Participants will assembly from 8h00 at the Bhisho Stadium for a 5km Fun run/ walk followed by aerobics marathon.

Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) will also play against Buffalo City Metropolitan Councillors in a 6-aside Soccer match.

Health audits will also be conducted on site including HIV Testing and Counselling as part of the programme. The tournament will precede the event of "Taking Legislature and Parliament to the People which will take place at the Christian Centre on 15 - 18 November 2016, at 10h00 and 145 daily.
