DISMISSED SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBAL COACH THREATENS LEGAL ACTION
Lawyers for dismissed South African national football coach Shakes Mashaba have threatened to take the case to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) if the South African Football Association (SAFA) does not reinstate him.
The legal team has written to SAFA to tell it not to appoint anyone in Mashaba's place.
Mashaba was fired last month after being found guilty of professional misconduct and insubordination.
Mashaba's lawyer, Claudio Bollo, said here Wednesday: They haven't responded as yet but obviously, we wouldn't like to press further with legal steps unnecessarily so we're waiting for them to give us a formal response on that.
"There are no games until August in the World Cup qualifiers, so give the coach a chance to prove himself. If he does, then you haven't taken the next step of appointing someone in that place and having to set that aside or to act accordingly.
"His first prize as any proud South African coach is to coach his country in the World Cup, which we're on course to have a chance to qualify for. Obviously, his first prize is to be reinstated as the Bafana Bafana coach.
