Crews attending fires at Dapto, Port Kembla
UPDATE 6.05PM: Rural Fire Service Illawarra zone district service officer Col Church said there were seven fire trucks attending the Cleveland Road fire.
"We're actively containing that fire," he said. "We're actively, aggressively attacking that fire.
"It's not contained as yet... There was property under threat.
"We've protected the (Dapto) high school; I believe the high school was under threat there."
However, Mr Church said the school was not currently under threat.
"It was, but not now," he said.
Mr Church said he couldn't yet confirm the cause of the fire.
UPDATE 5.50PM: The fire at West Dapto is reportedly encroaching near Dapto High School.
There were also earlier reports of a power pole ablaze near Daisy Bank Drive.
FIRE-FIGHTING units are attending bush fires at Cleveland Road, Horsley and Cowper Street, Port Kembla.
The region experienced gusty conditions on Saturday, and as of about 4.30pm, Rural Fire Service Illawarra zone district service officer Col Church said they were still ascertaining the situation.
He said there were Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service units on the scene at fires throughout the Dapto area as well as Port Kembla.
Mr Church said there had previously been two fires in the Dapto area, but one on the Princes Highway, Kembla Grange had been contained and extinguished.
Buses are replacing trains on the South Coast Line between Dapto and Albion Park in both directions due to a fire near the track.
