4TH HIGH-LEVEL SEMINAR ON AFRICAN PEACE AND SECURITY OPENS IN ORAN SATURDAY

The 4th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa will be held from Saturday to Monday in Oran. the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.

In addition to Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Ramtane Lamamra, several foreign ministers from other African countries will take part in the three-day event, including those from Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Nigeria, Senegal and Chad.

The Ministry said in a statement here Thursday that experts and representatives of African and United Nations bodies will also participate in this meeting, which will tackle several issues and themes relating to security and peace on the continent, including the evaluation of the implementation of the recommendations and the actions previously.

Participants of last year’s seminar had recommended the strengthening of African co-operation in the fight against drug trafficking and broader consultations on its operational aspects against this cross-border organized crime, whose proceeds are being used to financ terrorism in the same way as ransom payments. They also called for a universal ban on ransom payments to kidnappers.
